Survive to Thrive, Gifts of Stock and Planned Gifts
Annette Rafferty Survive to Thrive Fund
The Survive to Thrive Fund honors the name and intention of Abby’s House founder, Annette Rafferty. Annette has always believed that homeless and battered women and children deserve opportunities that will allow them not just to survive, but to thrive. Through this fund, hundreds of women have received gifts and loans to: complete college degrees, pay rent, cover uninsured medical costs, and take care of emergency expenses relating to family crises, among many other urgent concerns. If you would like to make a donation to this fund, please call Julie Komenos at (508) 756-5486 ext. 17.
Gifts of Stock/Securities
Gifts of stock and securities are a wonderful way to help homeless and battered women and children while receiving tax and other financial benefits. Contact Julie Komenos at (508) 756-5486 ext. 17 for information about transferring stock to Abby’s House.
Planned Gifts
Planned gifts will help to ensure the long-term viability of Abby’s House. Ironically, when Abby’s House opened its emergency shelter in 1976, the group that created the shelter thought that it would be out of business within five years. These activists truly believed that once the government and the public were educated about the needs of women living in poverty, that we as a society would figure out how to provide for their basic human needs. Unfortunately this was not the case, and over time we have expanded our services in the face of the stark reality that affordable housing and services for poor women and children will continue to be needed indefinitely.
The simplest way of making a planned gift is to ask your attorney to include Abby’s House in your will as part of your estate planning. You could also name Abby’s House as a beneficiary of a life insurance or retirement plan.
